It is windy, snowy, and I feel like I haven’t seen the sun in literal months.

In dressing properly for the cold, I’ve thought a lot about how much clothing provides comfort and safety. Being wrapped in my coat and scarf feels like a nice warm, soft embrace. Sometimes in winters when I go outside, I feel as though I’m completely dependent on my coat to get through my day.

In the verse, those who were baptised into Christ are described as being clothed with christ. In the same way that clothing provides comfort and security, Christ can serve that function if we are willing to let him. On particularly cold or difficult days we can feel entirely dependent on Christ. Without Christ, we would feel the cold much more intensely and life would be more joyless, cold, and exhausting.

Dear God, allow me to perceive and be wrapped in God’s presence in these trying times. Amen.

As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
