In the past year or so, my wife got me sucked into watching a couple fashion competition shows. While some aspects of fashion still elude me, there is one particular aspect that I really appreciate. Everyone on the show treats fashion and clothing as a form of self-expression, a means to convey something about themselves through what they wear. As someone whose wardrobe is predominantly t-shirts and gym shorts, this came as a hard realization at first.

But then I think about all the different clothes I have that mean something to me. Whether it be the t-shirt highlighting a nerdy interest, a Christmas sweater, or the nice clothes I wear to weddings. All of these actively convey something about myself.

It is not a leap, then, to consider what clothing ourselves in God would be like. It is putting God so close to us physically and spiritually that there is both constant touch and connection to our self. Clothing oneself in Christ is linking one’s identity to that of the mission of love within God, allowing your person to be an extension of that expression.

God, let us always be clothed in you, expressing your love for this world in all that we are and say and do. Amen.

As many of you as were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.
