This summer, Lutheran Campus Ministry in Madison has organized a Campus Connect Project, which seeks to gather the names of college students from each and every congregation in our synod. On your behalf, we will share your students’ information with the campus ministry staff at whatever school they attend.
This year, with the uncertainty of what form instruction will take in the fall given the COVID-19 crisis, it is especially important that you help us to minister to the young adults that your congregation is sending to college. It is possible that our facilities will not be open and that we will be meeting through virtual means. During this difficult time, it is even more important for young adults to be connected with a faith community and find ways to connect with their peers.
We can’t do this without you. Please make a plan now to connect your students to campus ministry. If you prefer to complete this information online, follow the link to http://lumin-networkreferral.org. Please provide as much information as you can for all of your college students (not just incoming freshmen).
We have a student working this summer who can help you, if you prefer. Simply print this form, fill it out and return it to Lutheran Campus Ministry and we’ll take care of the rest!
If you’d prefer your congregation members submit the information, here is a bulletin insert to publicize the link.
If your congregation has many students, or if you’ve lost track of your students since they were confirmed, consider these strategies to make this task easier:
-
If you use a church database, feel free to print class lists and write supplemental information directly on those pages. There is no need to retype information.
-
If you don’t know where your students are attending college, enlist a volunteer to make phone calls or send emails. Grandparents who care about college aged kids make great volunteers! Or ask one parent or student from each grade level to serve as the “class correspondent” and collect information.
-
Without graduation ceremonies or gathering in person at church, the transitions these students are facing may feel extra difficult. Consider praying for your students by name and school in your virtual worship, or pray for them via social media.
You’ll be hearing from us periodically over the summer as we continue to encourage you and help you with this project. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out! We’d love to help you any way we can.
Thank you for your partnership in accompanying students in their journeys of faith.
